Our audience research focused on Crafted Liberation’s impact. Our goal was to understand the emotional drivers behind support for this project. We identified two key personas:

  1. The Drivers: Primarily Iranian women living outside Iran, deeply connected to the Women, Life, Freedom movement.

These insights informed every aspect of our brand strategy, guiding the website and content creation to engage these audiences emotionally and effectively.

Radish Events: Using AI to transforms food waste management

About

We partnered with Radish Events, a sustainable catering company, to help them measure their food waste easily and accurately. For years, Radish had been manually weighing all their compost and waste to reduce what ended up in landfill. But to truly measure their efficiency, they needed a better way to track their inputs — the fresh produce they received from many different suppliers, captured only through stacks of scattered receipts.

To solve this, ReCo Digital developed a custom full-stack web application with AI-powered image recognition, allowing Radish to capture their input data and build a full picture of their food use and waste.

The MVP reached 100% accuracy and was built in just 4 weeks — showing how quickly a tailored AI solution can be developed with the right strategy.

Deep dive into the challenge

Collaborating with Henri Turra, managing director of Radish Events, we investigated their unique problem through existing data and workshops. While measuring output waste was straightforward, there was no reliable or convenient way to measure total food input. Without input data, Radish cannot measure their waste reduction efficiency rate and real impact.

This discovery process formed the foundation for defining practical requirements that would meet their needs, while staying technically feasible.

Research & technology assessment

We conducted extensive research across multiple AI and image recognition technologies. Our team evaluated specialised image recognition tools, custom-built recognition APIs like Azure Computer Vision and general AI APIs.

Each option was rigorously tested for accuracy, implementation feasibility and ease of use. This comparative analysis helped us identify the best solution — balancing powerful functionality with practical deployment.

Backend development with AI integration

After selecting the most accurate API from our testing, we built a robust backend system to support Radish’s needs. Our custom integration achieved close to 100% accuracy in reading weights from receipts and automatically categorising different food items.

We also built the system with security at its core, applying modern data protection protocols to keep sensitive business information safe during both processing and storage.

User-centred frontend design

With the powerful backend in place, we created an intuitive, modern frontend interface that enables Radish to:

  • Effortlessly upload and process receipt images
  • Collaborate with the AI to correct potential recognition errors
  • Visualise food usage patterns through custom dashboards
  • Identify waste reduction and cost-saving opportunities

The design prioritised ease of use while providing sophisticated analytical capabilities that required minimal training for the Radish team.

Iterative refinement & deployment

We delivered our MVP solution to Radish and incorporated their feedback through rapid iteration cycles. Our team custom-fit analysis tools and data visualisations to match Radish’s specific reporting needs, ensuring the user interface was optimised for their daily operations.

Project impact

The new system gave Radish a simple, reliable way to track food inputs for the first time. With real data now at their fingertips, they can better manage waste, report on their sustainability efforts and strengthen their leadership in sustainable catering.
